A gift from god!
I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine, he said,
For you to love to the while she lives, and mourn when she is dead
It maybe six or seven or twenty-two or three,
But will you, until i call her back takecare of gabbie for me
She'll bring her charm to gladden you, but should her stay be brief,
You'll have her loving memories, as solace for your grief
I can not promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there that i want Gabbie to learn
I've looked the world wide over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes i have selected you
Now will you give her all your love, nor thimk the labour vain,
Nor hate me when i come to call to take her back again?
I fancy that i heard them say: Lord, Thy will be done!
For all the joy that Gabbie will bring, the risk of grief we'll run,
We'll shelter her with tenderness: we'll love her while we may,
And for happiness we've know forever grateful stay
But should the angels call for Gabbie much sooner than you had planned,
Please brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
